5 tricks to stick to our new year resolution


Most of us would have made New Year resolution to make a fresh start. It’s a good habit to check ourselves, de clutter unwanted habits and again organizing ourselves with new set of goals. New year resolutions are goals set for ourselves for the whole year. But most of us find it difficult to stick to it. We end up returning to our old pattern within a month or 2.

Make simple resolutions

We must be liberal in making resolutions. We must set the goals according to our capacity. For example if we want to go for a regular walk early morning at 5 ‘o’ clock and we are person who sleeps till 7 ‘o’ clock , then it’s a great stress for us to get up at 5’o’ clock the very next day. So instead of following that habit the very next day, we can slowly incorporate that habit by setting the alarm at 6.45 a.m the first day, then 6.30 a.m, 2 to 3 days later, then 6.15 a.m. In this way we can slowly bring this to habit. Also this method will help us to stick to a habit throughout our life. Remember the proverb Slow and steady wins the race.
Share your resolution.
Sharing our resolution with our friends and family members is a great way to keep ourselves in track. Also sharing it with our friends makes it more enjoyable and keeps us motivated. Sometimes they may also have similar goals and we can join hands to achieve our goals. Also they would say the right things at hard times and keep us motivated.
Write the resolution in a chart paper and stick it on the wall.
Writing our resolution on a chart paper and sticking it on the wall helps us to remember our goals. It reminds us when we step out of our goal. The chart should be pasted on a place where we cross frequently. Initially we look into the chart for reminding our goals but later it becomes our habit and we can make further wise resolutions in our life.
List down your progress

  Writing every day activities is a good habit. It’s good to follow a daily routine journal to keep ourselves disciplined. When we turn back our journal, we can identify the activities that should be improved and that should be halted. Also it encourages us to keep up all our resolution. For example when we achieve our resolution of waking up early morning, it’s good to list it down in our daily routine journal. It motivates us to be wise and disciplined. We get motivated to follow our resolution.
Appreciate yourself:
Appreciating ourselves for keeping up our resolution is another way of encouraging us and motivating ourselves. For example, if one of our resolutions is to be organized, then we have to set a goal to follow this resolution for 5 days. We must strive hard to be organized for 5 days. When we achieve this micro goal, we must appreciate ourselves for achieving this goal. This practice will give us self-confidence. We must look at the mirror and appreciate our good qualities. This is a kind of self-love. When we start to love ourselves, others will also start loving us. Also in 5 days we get used to it and it turns into our habit.
