What is pranayama? Pranayama is a healthy breathing exercise to enhance the vital energy. Pranayama is composed of two words, Prana and ayama. Prana means vayu, the living energy flowing in the body and ayama means control. Pranayama means controlling the process of inhalation and exhalation. Practising pranayama regularly keeps the entire body healthy. Guidliness for doing pranayama: Ø Pranayama should be practiced in empty stomach. So, early morning is the best time to do pranayama. But it can also be practiced 3 to 4 hours after having any food. Ø The place where we are going to do pranayama must be clean, calm and should have ample supply of air. It can also be open space. Doing pranayama near water body is more effective. Ø While doing pranayama, we shouldn’t sit on a bare floor. We must sit on a yoga mat or spread a blanket on the floor and sit. In our Yoga class the first thing we practice is 2 minutes sacral chakra meditation. This 2 minute meditation gives us instant calmness and peace of mind. It prepares our body physically and mentally to start doing yoga. We do only 2 minute meditation due to lack of time. But just 2 minutes meditation is not enough to harvest the benefits. We must slowly increase the time of meditation to see excellent results. What is chakra? Chakras are energy centres of human body. They are the centres of various types of marvelous powers. There are seven main energy centres in human body. They are linked together starting from the root to the top of the spinal cord. I started practicing yoga from December 3, 2017. The first thing I was taught in the yoga class was 2 minutes meditation and then chanting om mantra. My yoga teacher also explained the benefits of OM and the effects it produce in our body. I also gathered more knowledge regarding OM mantra by surfing through the internet. Later I realized and noticed changes it brought in me. My friends also identified the changes in me. Here, I have come to share with you, the benefits of OM mantra and how to practice OM mantra. What is OM? Om is the basic sound of the universe. By chanting OM, we are physically tuning into the sound and vibration of the universe. It is chanted at the beginning and end of yoga session.
