Green peas/ Green matar biriyani


One day I saw my veg basket flooded with green peas. I was searching for a way to use it so that I can spend the green matar soon and then, green peas biriyani striked in my mind. Frankly speaking, this is the reason for making green peas biriyani on that day.
        But though I got this idea instantly, the recipe came out well and the taste was awesome. We liked it very much. It is one pot recipe and hence I found it easy to prepare. I paired it with raitha and my favourite potato fry.
        It is very easy to make and also very aromatic, delicious and mouthwatering.

Ingredients:

·        1 cup green peas
·        1 chopped onion
·        1 tomato
·        1 chopped capsicum
·        4 sliced green chillies
·        1 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
·        Coriander leaves, 1 hand full
·        Mint leaves, 1 hand full
·        2 cup rice
·        6 cups of water
·        ½ cup curd
For seasoning:
·        3 tablespoon ghee
·        1 tablespoon coconut oil/gingili oil
·        2 cardomom
·        2 red chillies
·        1 tablespoon fennel seed
·        2 cloves
·        2 star anise
Spice powders
·        2 tablespoon chilli powder
·        1 ½ tablespoon coriander powder
·        1 tablespoon garam masala powder
·        1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Pre-preparation for making green matar/green peas biriyani:
·        Take 1 chopped tomato and blend it into a tomato puree using a mixer and keep the tomato puree aside.
·        Take 4 sliced green chillies, 1 hand full of chopped coriander leaves and 1 hand full of mint leaves in a mixer jar. Blend it into a puree and keep this aside.
How to make green matar/green peas biriyani?
·        Heat 3 tablespoon ghee and 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a cooker and add the spices fennel seeds, cardamom, cloves, star anise and red chillies.
·        Add curry leaves to the spices
·        Then add finely chopped onions and sauté it.
·        Add ginger garlic paste
·        Sauté until the raw smell disappear
·        Add the tomato puree and green chilli, coriander leaves and mint leaves puree into the cooker and sauté it
·        Add chopped capsicum and sauté it
·        Add chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala  powder
·        Add ½ cup of curd and stir it
·        Add 1 cup green peas and stir it
·        Add 2 cups of rice and stir it
·        Add 6 cups of water, turmeric powder and 3 teaspoon salt
·        Close the lid of the cooker and cook for 3 whistles.
·        After the pressure has been released open the lid
·        Green peas biriyani is ready
·        It’s very tasty and aromatic. I paired it with raitha and my favourite potato fry.
How can you enhance its taste?
·        In this method, I have added ½ cup of curd and 6 cups of water. Instead of curd, you can add 1 cup of coconut milk and 5 cups of water. It would be more delicious.
·        You can also add chopped potatoes along with green peas to make it more filling.
Health benefits:
Green peas is rich in fibre, protein, vitamin A, C, K.
It is also rich in folate, manganese, Iron and phosphorous.
How does this green peas biriyani help us?
Reduces appetite: Green peas / green matar is rich in fibre and protein. Protein along with fibre slows down digestion and gives a feeling of fullness.
Promotes muscle strength and bone strength: protein in green peas plays an important role in keeping our bones and muscles strong.
