What is pranayama? Pranayama is a healthy breathing exercise to enhance the vital energy. Pranayama is composed of two words, Prana and ayama. Prana means vayu, the living energy flowing in the body and ayama means control. Pranayama means controlling the process of inhalation and exhalation. Practising pranayama regularly keeps the entire body healthy. Guidliness for doing pranayama: Ø Pranayama should be practiced in empty stomach. So, early morning is the best time to do pranayama. But it can also be practiced 3 to 4 hours after having any food. Ø The place where we are going to do pranayama must be clean, calm and should have ample supply of air. It can also be open space. Doing pranayama near water body is more effective. Ø While doing pranayama, we shouldn’t sit on a bare floor. We must sit on a yoga mat or spread a blanket on the floor and sit. Unni appam/Sweet paniyaram

Unniappam: I have tasted unniappam as temple prashadam. Later I found that making this sweet recipe is very easy. Recently I became a fan of Kuzhipaniyaram recipes and started making kuzhipaniyaram every week. This is one of my small steps in my healthy recipe journey. This unniappam is 100% safe and sweet recipe. I shared this unni appam with my neighbours and got excellent feedback.         There are different methods of making unniappam. Coriander chutney

Corriander is a leaf with good nutrients. It is very aromatic and even a small pinch of coriander leaf can change the aroma and flavor of the entire recipe. It is often available in bunch and I try to preserve it fresh. But though I follow many tricks to keep it fresh, it lasts maximum 1 week and begin to rot and will have to dispose it. So what I do is, I make coriander chutney when I came to know about its excellent nutrition benefits. I also add coriander leaves in detoxifying juices. It keeps us healthy. I made this by sauting it with onion, green chillies and coconut. This is an excellent side dish for dosa and also for porridges. I had it with rasam rice. Let’s see how I made it. Methi Roti/Methi chapathi

Methi Chapathi: It is a north Indian recipe. It is easy and simple to make. I prepare this methi roti on week end days. Methi is already a healthy leafy vegetable. I have posted a methi side dish in this blog. If you want, you can check it out  here . In this methi chapathi, I have sauted the methi leaves in oil first and then mixed with wheat flour and have made the chappathi. But some people also add the leaves raw. As I sauted the leaves before adding to the wheat flour, it released nice aroma while making the chapathi .It came out very well and tasty. It is an easy way of adding leafy vegetables into our diet. We can have this methi chapathi with curd and pickle. But since it is week end, I had enough time so I paired it with aloo matar sabzi. It’s a heavy and healthy breakfast.
