Ingredients:
- 1 cup boiled chickpeas
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 red chillies
- 1 sprig curry leaf
- Asafetida powder
- ½ cup shredded coconut.
- 2 tablespoon gingely oil.
How I prepared boiled chick peas
for sundal?
- Soak one cup of chickpeas in water for 7 to 8 hours.
- After 8 hours drain the water and put the chickpeas into the pressure cooker and also add little salt.
- Add 2 cups of water in the pressure cooker and cook for 5 whistles
- After the pressure has been released naturally, open the lid.
- Now the boiled chickpeas are ready.
How did I prepare sundal?
- Heat oil in a pan and add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 2 red chillies and little asafetida powder and also curry leaves.
- When the mustard seeds have spluttered, add the boiled chick peas and stir well.
- Also sprinkle some salt.
- Now add ¼ cup of shredded coconut and stir for 30 seconds.
- Now chickpea tadka is ready.
- It is an excellent healthy snack recipe. I had this as evening snack with masala tea. This sundal is one of my healthy snack recipe.
Health tips:
- We can strain the water used for boiling the chana in a cup and drink that broth. It is very healthy.
- Also the bolied chickpeas can be eaten without tempering which is healthier as no oil will be added.
- Seasoning with coconut, mustard and red chillies just enhances the taste of the chana.

- Chick pea is rich in protein and fibre
- It is rich in potassium.
- Chick pea also has Iron, vitamin B6, Magnesium and selenium.
- For people following vegetarian diet, chickpea is an excellent choice as it contains iron, protein, vitamins, selenium etc.
- Protein is very essential for skin health and hair health. Chick peas helps to grow hair thicker and longer.
- Chickpea is rich in dietary fibre. So it is bulking agent to the digestive system. it gives a feeling of fullness after eating . This fullness feeling reduces appetite and helps in weight management.
