Dal tadka is a simple vegetarian
dish in every Indian household. Here I have prepared using toor dhal but not
only toor dal; it can also be made with other types of lentils. There are
various methods of preparing dal tadka to enhance the taste. Here I have shown
a basic method of making dal tadka which would be helpful to busy working women
in their morning cooking. Also even men can prepare this simple dal recipe
which is stomach filling as well as healthy since dal is rich in protein.
·
1 cup dhal( Serves 2 nos)
·
1 tomato chopped
·
4 sliced green chillies
·
4 cloves of garlic
·
A small piece of ginger, grated
·
1 finely chopped onion
·
Asafetida powder
·
Turmeric powder
·
Salt to taste
For
seasoning:
Ghee, 2 Red chillies, Mustard
seeds, curry leaves, some finely chopped onion.
Procedure:
1. Put one
cup of dal directly in cooker and rinse it well with water. After rinsing add 2 ½ cups
of water, ¾ th of chopped onions, 1 chopped tomato, green chillies, turmeric
powder and asafetida powder.
2. Close the
lid of the cooker and cook for 4 whistles until it becomes mushy. After 4
whistles, open the lid when the pressure has released. If the dal is very thick
add little more water to make it a thin consistency, and also 3 tablespoons of
ghee and allow it to boil.
3. For seasoning,
heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, after it gets spluttered, add red
chillies, curry leaves and the remaining ¼ th of onion. Fry it until the onion
turns golden brown.
5. Simple dhal
tadka is ready.
It goes well with rice and roti.
