Make sambhar Easily in 10 steps


Sambhar is an excellent and tasty south Indian dish. It is a complete food made up of pulses and vegetables. The pulses in sambhar are rich in protein and the vegetables are rich in vitamins and fibre. It could be taken along with rice, idli, dosa or vada. Sambhar is the king of all vegetarian dishes with numerous nutrition benefits and tummy friendly too.
        Here I have shown you how to make simple and easy sambhar using a single cooker in 10 steps. Hope it benefits you.
Ingredients: (serves 2)
  • Toor dhal: 1 cup
  • Onion: 1 chopped into big pieces
  • Tomato: 1 chopped into big pieces
  • Green chillies: 4 sliced
  • Garlic: 5 to 6 cloves
  • Tamarind juice: Extracted from 5 seeded tamarind
Vegetables:
  • All vegetables must be chopped into big cubes.
  • Brinjal: 1
  • Drumstick: 1
  • Potato: 1
  • Pumpkin: 10 cubes
  • Cucumber: 10 cubes
  • other vegetables can also be added.
Spice powders:
Sambar powder: 2 tablespoon(tbspn)
Chilli powder: 1
Salt to taste
Coriander powder: 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder: ½ teaspoon(tspn)
Asafoetida powder: ½ tspn
Seasoning items:
Gingely oil: 3 tbspn
Mustard : 1 tbspn
Red chilli: 3
Procedure:

Step 1: Take 5 seeded tamarind and soak it in ½ cup of water for 15 minutes. Smash the fibre and Squeeze the juice from the tamarind with fingers and remove the  fibre.



Step 2:In a cooker add 1 cup of toor dhal and rinse  it well. To this add 1 chopped onion,  chopped tomato, 4 sliced green chillies, 5 to 6 cloves of garlic and ½ teaspoon of Asafoetida powder. Add required amount of water as shown the picture.

Step 3: Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles



Step 4: After 3 whistles switch off the flame and when the pressure has released open the lid and add all the chopped vegetables. Also add little more water.

Step 5: Close the lid and again cook for 1 whistle.


Step 6: Meanwhile in the extracted tamarind juice add 2 tablespoon of sambhar powder, 1 tbspn of chilli powder and 1 tbsp of coriander powder and blend well.





Step 7:
After 1 whistle  in step 5 switch off the flame and when the pressure has released open the lid and add the tamarind mixture in step 6 into the cooker.


Step 8: Bring it to Boil and allow it to boil for 5 minutes. The sambhar is almost ready

Step 9: Switch off the flame and  Now season the sambhar using the seasoning ingredient seperately and pour it into the sambhar.



Step 10. sprinkle some coriander leaves. Simple and healthy sambhar is ready.

Making sambhar is a tension less work compared to other curry or soup varieties. There is no hurry burry. Just you have to put all the ingredients intermittently and cook. Admists the gap between each step you could make  other dishes also like idli, rice, dosa, vada  as you get lot of time between each step.
