Healthy Black gram porridge

Black gram porridge is a traditional and healthy Indian recipe. This is made with black gram, boiled rice, fenugreek and garlic cloves. We make this porridge once in a week. This porridge is tummy friendly as well as keep us energetic and very nutritious.
It is rich in iron and protein and hence it is given to girls when they attain their puberty. It strengthens the uterus. Here I have used the whole gram and red rice for making the porridge which is healthier. Let’s see how to make it.
Ingredients (serves 2 nos)
·        1 cup red rice or boiled rice
·        ½ cup black gram
·        10 cloves of garlic
·        1 tspn fenugreek
·        Salt to taste
How to prepare black gram porridge?

  1. Put the boiled rice and ½ cup black gram into the cooker and rinse it well with water.
  2. Then add 1 tspn fenugreek seeds, 10 garlic cloves and add 4 cups of water and required salt.
  3. Now close the lid. Do not put the whistle. After few minutes vapour comes out of the lid through the top of the lid.
  4. Now put the whistle and lower the flame and put it in simmer for 20 to 30 minutes because black gram and red rice takes time to get cooked.
  5. After 30 minutes after all the pressure has been released, open the lid.
  6. If the porridge is thick add little hot water and bring it to boil
  7. The healthy black gram porridge is ready. we can pair it with spicy pickles or spicy coconut thuvayal.
Health benefits:

  • Urad dhal is rich in dietary fibre. Hence it supports the digestive system. It is also effective in healing piles.
  • This porridge is rich in iron. Hence it increases our energy level and keeps us active throughout the day.
  • It is good for bones and maintains our bone health as it is rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorous and magnesium.
  • It is used in ayurvedic medicines for curing nervous problems
  • Fenugreek and black gram in this porridge keeps sugar under control. Hence it is good for diabetic patient.

How can you enhance the taste of this porridge?

  • To make the porridge rich, we can add hot milk instead of hot water.
  • Also to enhance the aroma, dry ginger powder and cardamom can be added
  • Coconut gratings can be sprinkled and stirred in the porridge at the end if you like coconut scraps.
Hope you like it.😍😍😍
